Location: Bali // Sydney
Brand: Asara Swim
Figure behind the scene: Owner and designer of Asara Swim, Sarah Park is an Australian born babe recognisbale for her gold glowing skin thanks to a background of Japanese and Korean heritage. Finding inspiration from the vast crowds that swarm at Bondi Beach to the calming tones of the Indian Ocean; Sarah turned her vision into a reality by launching a swimwear line. “A collection for minimal tan lines and function yet a staple piece to every girl's wardrobe.”
Vision: Embracing the inner free spirit who lives by the sun, the sea and the moon exploring natures surroundings and watching the sunrise and the sunset, I present to you: ASARA SWIM.
“ASARA SWIM is a creative outlet that is an ode to jet set hedonism. Reminiscing the freedom of expression, sex and love of the 80s, Asara represents all things that are carefree, raw and sun-drenched of beach babes, lady sliders, palm trees and deserts.”
Describe yourself in three words: Open-minded, caring, adventurous.
Current mood in emojis: 😊 🤒 💃
Sarah ‘M’ Park, what is your middle name?
Monica - it was a toss between Jessica and Monica; thank god Monica won the poll!
Where did you grow up and where are you living now?
I was born in Sydney, Australia but spent most of my schooling years in Singapore; 9 to be exact. I finished my HSC back in Sydney and now live on the tropical island of Bali, Indonesia.
Where do you call home?
As cheesy as it may sound I believe home is where the heart is and that for me right now is Bali. Having the opportunity a few years ago to come visit during one of the toughest times in my life, it had not only been a place for me to recover but also a place where I felt grounded again.
Reason behind creating Asara Swim:
I’ve loved swimwear and the beach ever since I was young, inspiring and pursuing my dream of creating a brand; something that I could channel all of my favourite things into (photography, design, fashion, and travel). Creating ‘Asara Swim’ was not only something of a career choice but also a lifestyle choice - I had longed to move to Indonesia ever since I was 15 and now being able to live independently over here has been a nervous yet exhilarating journey for me so far and I am so excited to see what the future has in mind for me.
Meaning of the brand name ‘Asara’:
I wanted to create a brand name that relates to myself through the integration of my name as well as the sound resonating to my Japanese/Korean background.
What does an average day look like for you?
An average day for me is working in the morning or more simply putting it as trying to get everything done by the afternoon so I can go down to the beach for a sneaky swim or try squeeze in a surf before it gets dark.
What's the main thing you've learnt whilst doing this?
I’ve learnt that believing in yourself is all that really matters when you want to pursue something and also that you are always presented with a choice in any given situation; it’s just a matter of what decision you make.
If you could go back in time, which decade?
As cliché as it may be, I’d choose the 70s - to see the work of photographers such as Herb Ritts, Slim Aarons, Mario Sorenti, Helmut Newton (just to name a few) in print fresh off the press and see the supermodels that were chosen for covers due to their raw power and beauty rather than the number of followers they have on Instagram.
Alexandra Spencer –I adore everything about her including her taste in fashion and art, style of photographs and radiance of natural beauty.
Myself - that’s the only really way I get myself moving.
Bikini or Full Piece?
Hmm I’d have to say a bikini.
Best sunglasses you’ve ever owned:
I think they would have to be the ones I own now, the ‘XOA’ by Epokhe - probably my favourite frames that I’ll own for a while (and hopefully won’t break them by the end of the year).
One thing you always have on you?
Rings - I wear several rings but each has a meaning from a time and place; without them I feel unbalanced and that something is missing.
Powerful Place/Hidden Treasure:
A beach just a few minutes away from my house - there are rarely any tourists and it is the perfect place to go when in need to get away from the chaos life brings.
Favourite Shoot and Why?
I’m terrible with choosing favourites... with anything! But for now I’d have to say the recent ‘Ranger’ campaign for Zulu and Zephyr shot by Akila Berjaoui - absolutely love every single image and the production of the shoot.
Sunrise or Sunset:
Tips for the perfect tan, minus the lines:
The one and only thing you’ll need - 100% organic and cold-pressed coconut oil. You can find it at your local supermarket; it’s great for your skin and plus you’ll smell great.
Juice Recipe to add sparkles to one’s shine:
Djamu (local Turmeric drink) and a dash of cranberry juice to spice up your day.
Jewellery brand to watch:
‘Roam+Rumah’ The ladies’ hand pick the sea glass from Bingin beach here in Bali that is featured in all their pieces, such simple yet beautiful designs.
A quote or motto that connects with you:
“Do what you love” - something that I always tell myself when others try to convince me otherwise.
Can you send us a selfie?
TREAT: Asara Swim will be releasing a new collection later this year, keep your eyes peeled and your bodies ready!
Why not treat yourself and prepare early for Summer by purchasing a mighty fine piece from the debut collection ‘Hana’.
